"Heart of Artemis" depicts the Greek goddess Artemis with her characteristic bow and arrow quiver, adorned with a powerful green serpent, and holding a white dove. Greek mythology offers compelling dynamics when it comes to portraying women-loyal, fierce, seductive, pure, and calculating, the goddesses all have rich and interesting stories. With this piece, I intentionally explored the softer side of Artemis. Though she is a skilled hunter, she also is the goddess of wild animals. The idea of intimately understanding a creature while also being able to hunt and kill it is an interesting complexity. Artemis is also the protector of women. In one story she turns a hunter named Actaeon into a deer for having seen her bathing. I am drawn to Artemis for her duality, strength, and beauty.
