An artist statement is an accessible description of your work that helps your audience connect with and understand it on a deeper level. It is considered one of the core documents artists use for applying to shows, residencies and in exhibit text. Artist statements are also living documents that grow and adjust with the artist’s growth over time.

Required materials:

-A notebook

-Writing implement

-Laptop with word processing capabilities

Artists who register will be expected to come prepared and to stay for the whole of both sessions. The first session will include lecture and discussion, writing exercises, hands on experience and work together in groups. There will be some homework during the week and the second session will involve editing, group review and critique and time to polish the documents based on feedback. The goal of the workshop will be to leave with a working artist statement.
