“On Memory” explores the relationships between love, care, and dementia. This embroidery is based on an outline of a photo of my grandmother taking my brother and I out to ice cream as toddlers. It’s a meditation on the reversal of care responsibilities over a lifetime and finding joy in caring for others. The “unfinished” parts of the image represent the ways dementia erodes access to certain memories or alters their details and texture.
