I met Zoey around 25 years ago when I had a gallery and teaching studio in downtown Chattanooga. She was a musician in the Chattanooga Symphony and I frequently saw her walking downtown. I thought she would make a great model, as she had an elegance and style that was very European, in fact she reminded me of Edith Piaf. When I told her I was an artist, and would like to do a painting of her, she was delighted and said she was an artist's model when she was a young women. She came to my studio and sat for a few sittings while I sketched her. I loved hearing stories of her youth and was impressed that she pursued a career in music and had performed throughout her life around the world. While she was petite in stature, she had lived a life that was grand in scale. In my portrait of Zoey, I tried to capture her demure grace, her frankness and the musical life that she led.
